GMA inks 3-year deal with FOX Intl Channels

February 1, 2012 3:53pm
GMA Worldwide Inc. (GWI) announced Wednesday it has signed a three-year deal with FOX International Channels (FOX) which will allow locally produced GMA programs and feature films to be aired on FOX’s cable channels starting this year.

GWI, the content acquisition and distribution subsidiary of GMA Network Inc. (GMA), said the deal covers a minimum of 350 hours worth of GMA programs and 25 feature films.

Among the GMA programs delivered to FOX for airing in its Philippine feed are “Encantadia,” “Darna,” “Dyesebel,” “Super Twins,” and the Filipino TV adaptation of “Stairway to Heaven,” “Trudis Liit,” “Babangon Ako’t Dudurugin Kita.”

News and public affairs shows “Wish Ko Lang,” “Pinoy Meets World,” and “Pinoy Abroad” are also part of the deal.

Films covered by the deal are: “My Best Friend’s Girlfriend,” “When I Met You,” “Yaya and Angelina,” “Temptation Island,” and “Jose Rizal.”

FOX is one of GWI’s top global partners and is a subsidiary of a global media conglomerate.

GWI has also performed well in terms of sales in Africa, Brunei, Korea, and China in 2011, bringing over 2,000 hours worth of programs to these countries.

GWI vice president Roxanne Barcelona attributes this to the universal appeal of GMA programs.

GWI also successfully closed a deal in China, licensing an all-original 50-episode drama production of GMA Entertainment TV (ETV) Group.

In a statement, the company said it was able to have a strong sales performance in 2011 due to “strong syndication of programs and acquisition of canned programs for GMA’s two free-to-air channels.” — KG/VS, GMA News
