|TAMWORTH potter Dave Gilbert's China Open run was ended in the last 16 by world champion Mark Selby, who triumphed 5-2 in Beijing this morning (Thursday).
Gilbert did not have much luck in the opening few frames but hung in to stay in the match, televised live on Eurosport, at 3-2 down.
However, a 65 break from Selby won him the key sixth frame and he wrapped up the match by pinching a tight seventh.
Gilbert beat in-form Joe Perry – who lifted the Players' Championship title in Thailand last week – 5-3 in round one before overcoming youngster Zhou Yuelong in the second round.
The Tamworth Snooker Centre ace rattled in four 50-plus breaks as he came from 3-2 down to beat Perry in round one and knocked in runs of 92, 87, 63 and 50 in coming from 2-0 down to crush Yuelong.
Gilbert now has a few days to prepare for the World Championship qualifiers being held in Sheffield between April 8-15.
