Botanical Prints by Pierre Jean Françoise Turpin.

Born in Vire, France 1775 - Died in Paris 1840.

Below is a selection of prints by Pierre Jean Françoise Turpin, one of the greatest botanical painters of his day. He studied drawing at the art school in his home town of Vire. His work was influenced by Redouté and Spaendonck. It is known that he made at least 6000 watercolors of botanical subjects on parchment. His work is to be found in works of Chaumeton, Humbolt, Bonpland and Knuth to name a few.

The prints were printed between 1814-1820.

The prints are stipple-engraved plates, printed in colors and finished by hand.
