New York City is home to the largest diplomatic and consular community in the world - 193 Permanent Missions, 115 Consulates, and the headquarters of the United Nations. The Mayor's Office for International Affairs serves as the primary liaison between the City of New York and the diplomatic community, foreign governments, the United Nations, and the U.S. Department of State.

As an integral part of the Mayor's Office, the Agency fosters positive relations and creates opportunities for collaboration between the international community and local, state, and federal governments. The office is comprised of the following divisions: Diplomatic and Consular Affairs, Protocol, and International Business.

Greetings from Commissioner Abeywardena
