10 January 1993 – FIRST PROFESSIONAL TITLE FOR O'SULLIVAN
On his debut season on the main tour Ronnie O'Sullivan collected his first title as a professional, winning the Nescafé Extra Challenge in Bangkok. O'Sullivan beat John Parrott, James Wattana and Alan McManus to win the four-man round-robin event.
11 January 1982 – DAVIS MAKES FIRST TELEVISED MAXIMUM
In the Lada Classic at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham, Steve Davis made the first ever 147 seen on television. The break, which came in his quarter final match against John Spencer, was also the first maximum in a recognised professional tournament.
11 January 1992 - DAVIS WINS FINAL CLASSIC
The last Classic was won by Steve Davis who beat Stephen Hendry 9-8 in the final at the Bournemouth International Centre to record his sixth victory in the 13-year history of the event.
12 January 1986 – FIRST RANKING TITLE FOR JIMMY
After six years as a pro, Jimmy White won his first world ranking title when he defeated Cliff Thorburn 13-12 at the Spectrum Arena in Warrington to win The Classic.
13 January 1881 – BENNETT WINS THIRD BILLIARDS TITLE
Joseph Bennett won the World Billiards title for the third time beating Tom Taylor by 90 points in a '1000-up' match.
13 January 1982 – GRIFFITHS WINS CLASSIC
At the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham, Terry Griffiths won the non-ranking Classic, beating defending champion Steve Davis 9-8 in the final.
13 January 1985 – WILLIE THORNE'S FIRST AND ONLY RANKING TITLE.
Willie Thorne won his only ranking title, defeating Cliff Thorburn 13-8 in the final to win The Classic at the Spectrum in Warrington.
13 January 1991 – SECOND CLASSIC FOR WHITE ENDS HENDRY'S RUN
Jimmy White won The Classic for the second time with a 10-4 victory over Stephen Hendry at Bournemouth International Centre. That result ended a remarkable run of 35 victories in ranking events for the Scot, including five titles, going back to March 1990.
13 January 1999 – MAXIMUM FOR PRINCE
Jason Prince recorded the 25th official maximum break in his British Open qualifier against Ian Brumby at the Hazel Grove Snooker Club in Stockport.
14 January 1947 – BILL WERBENIUK BORN
Bill Werbeniuk, the larger than life Canadian who rose to number eight in the rankings and was three times a quarter finalist in the World Championship, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He died a few days after his 56th birthday in 2003.
14 January 1990 – STEVE JAMES COLLECTS HIS FIRST MAJOR TITLE
At the Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool, Steve James won his first and only ranking title as he beat Australian Warren King 10-6 in the final of The Classic. Both players were appearing in their first ranking final.
14 January 2007 - DING CHRISTENS NEW MASTERS VENUE WITH A MAXIMUM
The very first match of The Masters at its new venue, Wembley Arena, saw Ding Junhui compile a 147 break against Anthony Hamilton. It was Ding's first maximum and only the second in the history of the event.
15 January 1979 – SPENCER MAKES MAXIMUM - BUT IT DOESN'T COUNT!
John Spencer made the first maximum break in professional competition in the Holsten Lager International at the Fulcrum Centre in Slough against Cliff Thorburn. Unfortunately, as the pockets did not conform to official standards, it was not recognised for record purposes. To add insult to injury the cameramen were on a tea break, meaning that the break was not televised!
15 January 1984 – DAVIS RETAINS CLASSIC TITLE AS 'FAN' UPSETS MEO
The deciding frame of The Classic at the Spectrum Arena in Warrington looked to be going the way of Tony Meo. Needing just yellow to pink off their spots to defeat his friend and doubles partner Steve Davis, Tony was about to play the yellow when a misguided supporter yelled "Come on, Tony". The pot was missed and Davis cleared up to retain his title 9-8.
15 January 1985 – FIRST CENTURY BY A WOMAN
Stacey Hillyard made a break of 114, the first century by a woman in competitive play, in a league match in Bournemouth.
15 January 1989 – MOUNTJOY COMPLETES BACK-TO-BACK RANKING DOUBLE
A 13-11 victory over his friend, Wayne Jones, gave Doug Mountjoy The Classic title and completed a back-to-back double of ranking titles as he had won the UK Championship the month before. This achievement was all the more remarkable as Mountjoy had slipped to 24th in the rankings, his lowest position since turning professional.
15 January 1995 – HENDRY CLAIMS CHARITY CHALLENGE
The first Charity Challenge at the ICC in Birmingham was won by Stephen Hendry, who beat Dennis Taylor 9-1 in the final.
16 January 1983 – DAVIS WINS LADA CLASSIC
At the Spectrum Arena in Warrington, Steve Davis beat Bill Werbeniuk 9-5 to win The Classic on the last occasion that it was a non-ranking event.
16 January 1991 – MAXIMUM FOR WATTANA
On the opening day of the World Masters at the NEC in Birmingham, James Wattana made the ninth official 147 break in competition against Paul Dawkins.
