This walled courtyard, set in a wild Chinese forest in the foothills of the mountains, pays homage to the work of notable plant collector E H Wilson who, at the start of the 20th century, returned to the western world from China with more than 2000 plant species, changing forever the varieties of flora available to gardeners in the temperate world.

This garden, belonging to a fictitious merchant from Suzhou, China, can be accessed via moongates in two opposite walls of the courtyard. It has been designed to represent a traditional Chinese style, with both its hard landscaping and planting. Plants of Chinese origin fill the garden, all collectable and each recognisable to us, thanks to the work of Wilson and other plant collectors.
