HE knows a thing or two about his next opponent at the UK Snooker Championship, but Gloucester potter Jack Lisowski insists he will have to hit top form to stay in the tournament.

Lisowski eased his way into the last 64 at the York Barbican on Thursday, beating Chris Melling 6-1 in under two hours.

That earned him a clash with world No.25 Liang Wenbo and it is one the youngster is looking forward to.

“He’s a great player so it will be a really hard game,” said Lisowski. “If I don’t play really well, I’ll lose.

“I played him a few weeks ago before I knew we were due to meet in this, but I’ve played him a lot over the years and I know how good he is.

“I was quite nervous because it’s a big tournament but I managed to get ahead quite early on.

“I haven’t done so well in the last few months but I’ve just practised hard and you get the confidence through winning so hopefully I can start winning.”

And after Robert Milkins took to Twitter during Lisowski’s match, backing him to go deep in the tournament, the 23-year-old is grateful for the support.

“I’ve known him since I was about seven – he’s a really good mate and obviously he’s doing amazingly well at the moment,” he added.

“I’ve asked him for a bit of guidance and he’s given me some good things – he mostly just says I’ve got to start playing more safety!”
