Columbia Pictures Logo

The Columbia Pictures Logo was updated by Jeff Kleiser and Diana Walczak in 1993. 2D elements were taken from a painting by Michael Deas and converted to 3D. Diana sculpted a relief of the woman to allow lighting effects on her. The clouds were divided up into 66 image maps and additional cloud material was painted to allow for overlapping clouds. This was Diana’s first experience with Photoshop, but certainly not the last! She then mapped every cloud onto a 3D object that she twist-distorted and translated using Wavefront animation software. Sixty rendered motion tests later, the new logo was born. Produced by Joel Hynek.
