Single Network
Explanation:
Your household will be connected to the Internet with the incredible power of 2Gbps bandwidth. This setup will give you a single network on a single IP Address, for easy sharing of files, printers, videos and music.

The modem / router, will have 4 available wired connections, each transmitting at a maximum of 1Gbps speed. You may plugin 4 computers or internet-enabled devices (e.g. Smart TVs) and enjoy a combined total of 2Gbps bandwidth.

In order to get Wi-Fi at home, you can connect any third party router to any of the wired connections mentioned above. This will also increase the number of wired connections available for even more computers or internet-enabled devices. Do note that the third party router in this case has to be configured as an Access Point (AP).

Common questions:
  • What third party router can I use in conjunction with the modem / router?
  • You can use any third party router that can be set as an Access Point (AP) - the list of third party routers which ViewQwest supports can be found here: Supported Routers.

  • My speedtest isn't going beyond 1Gbps, is this normal?
  • Yes – Each wired connection on the modem / router, and on the third party router, cannot go beyond 1Gbps. However, the combined total bandwidth of all devices in your household is 2Gbps.

  • I want to connect more than 1 third party router to the modem / router in order to get better Wi-Fi coverage throughout my house, is this possible?
  • Yes – The diagram here is an example of a simplified setup. So long as all your third party routers are configured as Access Points (APs), you can connect up to 4 of them to the modem / router to gain huge Wi-Fi coverage and a large number of wired connections.

Multi-Network
Explanation:
Your household will be connected to the Internet with the incredible power of 2Gbps bandwidth. This setup will give you two separate networks in your household, each running on an independent IP Address. The benefits of having multi-networks in your home is that it allows you greater control over Internet usage, for example:

  • First network dedicated to high bandwidth tasks such as gaming or backups and downloading, while the second network is kept uncongested and free for daily tasks (surfing, streaming movies, etc.).

  • First network dedicated to critical work or business for your home office, while the second network is available for daily tasks (downloading, surfing, streaming movies, gaming, etc.).

Each network will not interfere with the other, giving you greater security and stability. You will also enjoy larger Wi-Fi coverage with 2 separate routers, and a large number of wired connections for your computers or internet-enabled devices (e.g. Smart TVs).

Common questions:
  • What third party routers can I use in conjunction with the modem?
  • You can use any third party router you wish - the list of third party routers which ViewQwest supports can be found here: Supported Routers.

  • My speedtest isn't going beyond 1Gbps, is this normal?
  • Yes – each wired connection on the third party routers cannot go beyond 1Gbps. However, the combined total bandwidth of all devices in your household is 2Gbps.

  • I want to connect more than 2 third party routers to the modem to get better Wi-Fi coverage throughout my house, is this possible?
  • Unfortunately, no – Each third party router must be connected to the wired connection specified on the modem. Connecting a third router to the modem will not work.

2Gbps to 1 PC
Explanation:
Your household will be connected to the Internet with the incredible power of 2Gbps bandwidth. This setup is suitable for highly tech-savvy users who wish to use enterprise-grade networking equipment to combine two networks into a single bonded connection.

Besides having a large number of wired connections and large Wi-Fi coverage, you will be one of the very exclusive few in the world to boast a single 2Gbps connection into one PC.

This setup is not for the faint of heart, only extreme enthusiasts need apply ☺.

Common questions:
  • Can I use any router other than the MikroTik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+PC?
  • We have selected this model, as it is the lowest priced 2Gbps capable router on the market that we can offer support for. Whilst other options are possible, do note that ViewQwest engineers will not be able to provide configuration assistance other than basic network related information. Also be wary of using other devices that claim support for bonding. In many cases these devices can only provide active / failover support for your connection and will not be able to provide true 2Gbps.

  • My speedtest isn't fully reaching 2Gbps, is this normal?
  • Yes – 2Gbps delivered into a single computer stresses the absolute limits of today’s technology. Speedtests are also CPU-limited, so higher end CPUs (or over-clocked CPUs) may show better results. The maximum our engineers have been able to reach on a speedtest is 1,890Mbps. To give you an indication of what you can expect, here is the setup and results from some of our tests:

Desktop, Intel Core i7-4970K @ 4.4GHz, dual Intel i210 Gigabit Network Interface Cards, Windows 7: Speedtest Results Up to 1890Mbps.

Desktop, Intel Core i7-4770 @ 3.4GHz, dual Intel i210 Gigabit Network Interface Cards, Windows 8: Speedtest Results Up to 1550Mbps.

Retina MacBook Pro (Early 2013), Intel Core i7-3740QM @ 2.7GHz, dual Apple to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, Mac OS X “Yosemite”: Speedtest Results Up to 1550Mbps.

Retina MacBook Pro (Mid 2012), Intel Core i7-3720QM @ 2.6Ghz, dual Apple to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, Mac OS X “Yosemite”: Speedtest Results Up to 1450Mbps.
