Penalties & enforcement

Fare Evasion

We are increasing the number of plain clothes operations across the entire transport network, building the pressure on fare dodgers.

Fare evasion is a criminal offence that could lead to a fine of up to £1000 and a criminal record.

Remember that your ticket must cover your entire journey and all the zones you're travelling in.

Penalty fare amount

The penalty fare is £80 - reduced to £40 if you pay within 21 days. If you don't pay the penalty fare (or successfully appeal) within 21 days, we will take further action.
