Maybe now, team President John Davidson suggested, Blues fans finally can say goodbye to Chris Pronger and embrace Eric Brewer, the team's newly named captain.
In one of the franchise's most controversial trades, the Blues sent the popular Pronger, who during his nine years in St. Louis was a league MVP, to Edmonton in August 2005.
The Blues received three young defensemen; among them, only Brewer had played in more than two NHL games. Thus, he became regarded as Pronger's "replacement," a label that brought daunting expectations.
"When you're compared to a Chris Pronger, that's really not fair," Davidson said. "Chris has gone on to great things, and we're hoping that 'Brew' is going to be our leader and we're going to go on to great things ourselves. …
