Penguins Acquire Forward Carl Hagelin from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for David Perron and Adam Clendening

The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired forward Carl Hagelin in exchange for forward David Perron and defenseman Adam Clendening, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

Hagelin is signed through the 2018-19 season and has an average annual value of $4 million.

Hagelin, 27, has played 43 games in his first season with the Ducks, recording 12 points (4G-8A), including an assist tonight in the 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars.

The 5-foot-11, 186-pound forward was traded to Anaheim after spending the past four seasons with the New York Rangers. Hagelin appeared in 266 career games with the Rangers, collecting 58 goals and 130 points while finishing with a plus-57. He notched 26 points (12G-14A) in 73 playoff games in four-consecutive postseason berths with New York. He has 105 points (46G-59A) in 221 career games against Eastern Conference opponents.

The Sodertalje, Sweden native won a silver medal while representing his country in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. He made his international debut playing six games, earning a silver medal with Team Sweden at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Hagelin was originally drafted by the Rangers in the sixth round (168th overall) of the 2007 NHL Draft.

Hagelin played four seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Michigan from 2007-2011, registering 61 goals and 152 points in 171 games. He was the first Swedish ice hockey player to play for the University.
