The ferry port of Newcastle in England is your gateway to Holland with the Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry crossing running about 7 times per week. The Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry route is operated by DFDS Seaways and the sailing itself is from around 15 hours 30 minutes.
The Port of Tyne is one of the UK’s major seaports and was voted ‘Port of the Year’ in the 2014 National Transport Awards.
It sits on both banks of the River Tyne, with most cargo docks in South Shields and the International Passenger Terminal in North Shields. It has operated passenger services for over one hundred years and offers a purpose-built cruise berth, capable of handling a wide range of vessels.
The region boasts areas of exquisite natural beauty and is home to a number of World Heritage Sites including Hadrian’s Wall, Durham Cathedral and Alnwick Castle. Also, in 120 AD the Romans founded Fort Arbeia in the South Shields area, it has been partially reconstructed and is well worth a visit.
The Port of Tyne is easily reachable by public transport. Percy Main Metro station is a fifteen minute walk away and Newcastle Central Station is approximately twenty minutes by bus.
If driving from the north, follow the A1/A19 towards North Shields A187. From the south, follow the A19/A194 (M) and turn east along the A187.
