Fergal O’Brien made the first 147 of his career during a match against Mark Davis at the Championship League on Thursday.

The world number 34 from Dublin made the perfect break in the first frame of the Group Six match at Crondon Park in Essex.

At the age of 43, he becomes the oldest player to make an official 147.

O’Brien’s maximum is the 118th in snooker history and fourth of the season after Neil Robertson at the UK Championship, Marco Fu at the Gibraltar Open and Ding Junhui at last week’s Welsh Open.

The 147 will earn the group’s £500 high break prize unless it is equalled.

Former British Open champion O’Brien previously had a top break of 143.
