Larry David Talks Curb Your Enthusiasm's Future

Will there be a Season 8?

It's the question Curb Your Enthusiasm fans ask after every season – Will the show return again? Larry David famously likes to keep things close to the vest when it comes to hinting whether he will come back for another year or not, and it's become common for there to be long waits between seasons, before David decides he does indeed want to return.

Of course when I had the chance to speak one-on-one with David tonight at Paley Fest, which was ending this year with a night paying tribute to Curb Your Enthusiasm, I had to ask whether we might see a Season 8 for the hysterical HBO show. And David had a reply that left me pretty happy, as he said, "Yeah, we're thinking about it. I think there's a good chance."

I asked David if he was thinking about a season long story arc, such as Larry joining The Producers or this past season's Seinfeld reunion storyline, and he replied, "It's not so much about an arc. I don't really care that much about that. You know, we had episodes on last season that had nothing to do with the Seinfeld reunion, and they were all great shows. The one about the women in the wheelchairs ["Denise Handicapped"], and "The Black Swan" episode. Those shows stood alone, so we could do a whole season of shows that stand alone. It doesn't really matter."

Simply hearing David say more than "I'm not sure yet" had me pretty optimistic about seeing another season, and that optimism was added to during the Paley Fest panel later that evening, where David again said he felt chances were good for Curb to return, and added, "It's not definite yet, but we're working on some stuff."

David, not surprisingly, wouldn't get specific on anything we might see in Season 8. However, asked if we will see more of Leon Black (J.B. Smoove), he did reply, "I think so." That was all he was willing to share though. When he was asked if the seeming reconciliation of Larry and Cheryl (Cheryl Hines) will have lasted in the next season, David simply remarked, with his trademark funny/cranky delivery, "Oh, we don't know!"
