About

Volunteer-Run, Volunteer Led

We are the only completely volunteer-run Women's Center in the state of North Carolina. Most centers have a director, staff, interns, and volunteers. But our volunteers, all Appalachian State University students, run the Center at a similar capacity to other Centers without the heirarchical organization. This "flat" organization makes our center unique and as a result, student-centered. We participate in national awareness campaigns, plan and coordinate our own programs and events, and regulate ourselves with the aid of a staff advisor and a part-time graduate assistant. This hands-off approach ensures that all volunteers can contribute to the culture and the goals of the Women's Center.

Women's Center Meetings

The Women's Center currently meets every Thursday from 5:00 - 6:00PM in the New River Room of the Student Union. Our meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome. Can't make the meeting? Check out the Minutes section of our site to get the latest.

Hours of Operation

We're open Monday through Thursday from 10:00AM - 5:00PM and Fridays from 10:00AM- 2:00PM.

Campus Organization

The Women's Center is housed, along with the Multicultural Center and the LGBT Center, under the umbrella of Multicultural Student Development. All three of these Centers are located in the Plemmons Student Union.

Affiliation

We have no political or religious affiliation.

Legality and Confidentiality

The Women's Center is a safe place and a resource for both ASU students and community members. While we are discreet and do not discriminate, we cannot guarrantee legal confidentiality and must conform to the regulations of Appalachian State University in reporting crimes and other incidents. Our volunteers make every effort to refer individuals to a more appropriate organization if absolute confidentiality is desired.

Cooperative Projects

The Women's Center is proud to work with other organizations. These range from on-campus clubs to community nonprofits. If you represent an organization and are interested in combining efforts, please contact us!
