The Times of India Film Awards 2016, Bollywood’s most celebrated awards show, wrapped up March 18 with a full house at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai Sports City. Along with the awards, Bollywood celebrities won the audiences’ hearts with their performances, heartwarming speeches and special tributes, a press release reported.
“Bajirao Mastani” won the maximum number of awards in six categories for Best Director (Sanjay Leela Bhansali), Best Actor Male (Ranveer Singh), Best Supporting Actor Female (Priyanka Chopra), Best Jodi of the Year (Singh and Deepika Padukone), Best Playback Singer – Female (Shreya Ghoshal for “Mohe Rang Do Lal”), and Music Composer for the Year (Bhansali for “Deewani Mastani”).
The hosts for the evening, Riteish Deshmukh and Parineeti Chopra, had the audience in splits with their perfect comic timing, quirky comments and playful interactions with the celebrities.
Varun Dhawan opened the awards night with his performance on Bollywood super-hits. Dhawan did a special act on “Kar Gayi Chul” for Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt.
Jacqueline Fernandez’s glamorous act on all her most popular super-hit songs, such as “Aa Zara” and “Chittiyan Kalaiyan” ensured the start of a night of complete Bollywood entertainment.
Salman Khan’s unique onstage presence during his performance dedicated to ‘Heroes of Bollywood’ was certainly one of the highlights of the night as he also specially sang a part of “Main Hoon Hero Tera,” according to a press release.
Salman Khan, after his magical performance, said, “Dubai is home for me, and thank you Dubai for showering Prem with a lot of ‘Prem.’ TOIFA 2016 was rocking and so was the audience!”
As is expected of Singh, he pumped up the energy levels ‘Amitabh Bachchan’ style with a special tribute to the living legend. Singh donned the legend’s best looks for all his popular songs. Bachchan thoroughly enjoyed Singh’s performance as he was seen smiling with amusement till the end and even joined him onstage for a quick gig on "Kajra Re.”
After the performance, Anil Kapoor presented Bachchan with the ‘Living Legend Award’ for his relentless contribution to the Hindi film industry.
To add royalty to the evening, Kareena Kapoor Khan sizzled on the dance floor with her hypnotic dance moves as a tribute to the ‘Divas of Bollywood,’ while Kanika Kapoor performed to some of Bollywood’s favorite songs.
Shah Rukh Khan entranced the audience with his performance on “Jabra Fan,” “Gerua” and “Chaiyyan Chaiyyan.”
The performances were brilliantly put together by ace choreographer Shiamak Davar.
