Zhang Wins Chinese National Event
Zhang Anda beat Zhou Yuelong 5-1 in the final of the China Professional Tour Fuzhou event last week.
Zhang had never previously been beyond the quarter-finals of a China Professional Tour event.
“Finally I made it,” said Zhang, “Now I truly am a national champion and this will inspire me a lot through my career.
“I’ve wanted this title for a long time because I’ll be recognised as China’s national champion.
“It’s a big confidence boost. One’s performance can be crucial in a snooker match because we all have good technique. One’s attitude is playing an important role. It’s a matter of who deals with the situation better. I made the most of my chances today.
“My opponent Zhou Yuelong was unlucky. I fluked a snooker on the green in the fourth frame and later he missed the final black, otherwise it would have gone 2-2.”
Zhang, who first turned pro in 2009, finished 65th on the world ranking list last season but a good run in the Asian Tour event gave him a fresh two year tour card.
