Christy, the Musical, based on the best-selling novel Christy, by Katherine Marshall, was written and produced by Shirley Dolan, Sandy Kalan and Ken McCaw, and choreographed by Kim McCaw. The show was first presented in Lancaster PA in 1992. In 1993, it was presented for one month at Cumberland County Playhouse, Crossville TN. Due to sold-out attendance, the show was then continued for fourteen additional sold-out performances. In 1994 Christy, the Musical moved to the Smoky Mountain Theater, Townsend TN, as an outdoor drama. Townsend was also the filming location for the CBS series "Christy" and number of performers appeared in both productions. Christy, the Musical continued for three years as one of the most successful outdoor dramas in the U.S. In the spring of 1996, the show was also presented as an indoor drama at the Acuff Theater, Opryland USA in Nashville TN, including 12 sold-out school matinees. The show was also listed as a state-supported destination in celebration of the 1996 Tennessee Bicentennial. Christy, the Musical was presented about 500 times, with total audience attendance approximately 150,000 including 25,000 for elementary through high school matinees. The production was reviewed over 100 times by local and national news outlets. |
