The Penguins announced today that the team will wear its Pittsburgh gold uniforms during Stanley Cup playoff home games.
The team also announced that Pittsburgh gold T-shirts and rally towels will be given out to fans at Consol Energy Center for each home game. The Penguins open the playoffs at 8 p.m. Wednesday against the Rangers.
The color scheme, similar to the gold (yellow) worn by the Steelers and Pirates, has been featured on the Penguins’ alternate jerseys for the past two seasons. It’s also similar to the design the Penguins wore in the 1980s and early 1990s.
