Miguel Almaguer is an NBC News national correspondent based in Los Angeles, California. He reports for all platforms of NBC News, including "NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt," "Today," NBCNews.com, and MSNBC.

Since joining NBC News in 2009, Almaguer has covered a range of stories across the United States and around the globe, including the recent wildfires and heat wave along the west coast, the San Bernardino attack and Colorado’s Planned Parenthood shooting.

This year, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists awarded Almaguer the Presidential Award of Visibility. In 2015, he was nominated for an Emmy for his series on Tsunami Debris after the earthquake in Japan .Almaguer also received an Emmy nomination for his breaking news coverage last year of mudslides in Washington State.  He has won an Edward R. Murrow award for his coverage of California’s Firestorm.

Prior to joining NBC News, Almaguer was a general assignment reporter specializing in breaking news coverage at WRC-TV in Washington, DC, where he had been since 2006. From 2003-2006, Almaguer was a reporter for KCRA-TV in Sacramento. His first job in television was with KSBW-TV in Salinas, California.

A native of Berkeley, California, Almaguer graduated with high honors from San Francisco State University with a degree in broadcast communications.
