Liverpool Ferry Port

Liverpool ferry port is located on the North West coast of England, on the east side of the River Mersey and connects you with Ireland and the Isle of Man.

The port is well connected with the rest of the country features numerous terminals, two of which are used for passenger and vehicle transportation by P&O Ferries and Steam Packet.

P&O Ferries sail from Liverpool to Irelands’ capital city, Dublin, connecting the two iconic cities and operate from Gladstone docks in Liverpool Freeport while Steam Packet who operates the fast ferry crossing to the Isle of Man sail from the Landing Stage terminal near the Pier Head.

Liverpool ferries to Belfast depart from the port at Birkenhead on the other side of the River Mersey.

How To Get To Liverpool Ferry Port

  • Liverpool Ferry Port by Car

    P&O Ferries Terminal at Liverpool Freeport (Gladstone Dock, Liverpool Freeport, Bootle, L20 1BG)
    The Liverpool Terminal is within Liverpool Freeport. Go through Freeport police security entrance and take the first left. The Ferry Terminal is about one mile along on the right hand side. Take a right and follow signs past the front of terminal buildings to passenger check-in.
    From Liverpool City Centre follow A565 towards Bootle. Take sign for Liverpool Freeport.
    From other areas use M57 or M58 and follow signs "All Docks" on A5036. Continue on A5036 for approx. 2 miles until roundabout incorporating a flyover and follow signs for Crosby/Liverpool Freeport.

    Isle of Man Steam packet Liverpool Ferry Terminal (Princes Landing Stage near the Pier Head)
    Access to the edge of the city is via the M6/M62 or M58. From the M62, follow signs to the City Centre and then Pier Head signs to the Princes Landing Stage.
    From M58 follow the A5036 and then the A565 to the Pier Head.
    From North Wales take the M53, then the Wallasey Tunnel and the A59 to the Pier Head.

    Ferry services serve the Port of Liverpool at several different locations and the nearest rail station varies according to which terminal is required. The ferry terminals are as follows:

    Liverpool (PIER HEAD)

    The Pier Head ferry terminal is for the Isle of Man Steam Packet (to Douglas IoM) ferry services. The nearest rail stations for this are the Liverpool City Centre stations including Liverpool Lime Street, Moorfields, Central and James Street. All of which are a short walk from the ferry terminal at Pier Head. Additionally there is an S2 / S3 FerryLink and City Centre Circular bus service which operates from Liverpool Lime Street station to Pier Head.

    Liverpool (P&O Ferries terminal)

    The P&O Ferries terminal is at Gladstone Dock and the nearest rail stations for this are the Liverpool City Centre stations including Liverpool Lime Street, Moorfields, Central and James Street. All of which are a short taxi ride from the P&O Irish Sea ferry terminal at Gladstone Dock.

    Liverpool (Twelve Quays Birkenhead ferry terminal)

    The Twelve Quays ferry terminal is for the Stena Line ferry services to Belfast. The nearest rail station for this ferry terminal is Hamilton Square (Birkenhead) which is only a short walk away. Alternatively the Twelve Quays ferry terminal is a short taxi ride away from the Liverpool City Centre rail stations.
