Stuart Bingham fended off a spirited Stuart Carrington fightback to seal his place in the Welsh Open Semi-Finals with a 5-3 victory on Friday evening, as Robert Milkins powered past Kurt Maflin in Cardiff.

Bingham looked to be in for a short night's work as he raced into a 4-0 lead, only for Carrington to peg back with three consecutive frames after the interval.

The world number two, though, held his nerve to edge a marathon eighth frame and remain on course for a maiden Welsh Open crown.

Carrington, appearing in the Quarter-Finals of a ranking event for the first time, mustered just three points from the opening four frames as Bingham dominated the early stages.

The 2015 World Champion opened up with a sublime 103 clearance, before following it up with a break of 68 to double his advantage.

Bingham then added a break of 70 in frame three and dominated the fourth by 87 points to two to make it 4-0 at the mid-session interval.

Carrington, though, rallied after the restart with runs of 38 and 45 to get off the mark, before safely securing frame six to make further inroads.

Alarm bells began to ring for Bingham when the Grimbsy cueist seized upon a crucial missed blue to get back within one of 'Ball Run', but it was the second seed who edged a 40-minute eighth frame to seal victory.

Bingham will face Gloucester's Milkins in Saturday's Semi-Finals after the world number 32 dispatched Norway's Kurt Maflin 5-2 at the Motorpoint Arena.

It was Maflin who took the opening frame with a break of 59, before Milkins hit back with a quick-fire 71 to level.

A break of 54 helped Milkins into a 2-1 lead, and after Maflin had produced a 57 in frame four, 'The Milk Man' overturned it with a superb 63 clearance to extend his lead.

Maflin pegged back after the restart, but only for Milkins to reel off the next two frames in quick succession to reach his fifth career ranking Semi-Final.
