Services

 

The Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) is responsible for providing weather forecast and warning services for Fiji and many Pacific Island nations. It operates the National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) at Nadi, which serves Fiji's weather information needs, and the Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre Nadi - Tropical Cyclone Centre (RSMC Nadi-TCC), which provides weather forecasts, cyclone and other severe weather warnings, and advisory information for the tropical South Pacific region. The latter function is served under the World Weather Watch Programme of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). 
National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) 
The NWFC provides weather forecasts for Fiji as follows: Marine Weather Bulletins- issued 0330, 0730, 1330, 1730, 2030, and 2300 
Public Weather Bulletins issued 0330, 0730, 1100, 1730 and 224500 
The marine bulletins cover all Fiji waters while the public bulletin also gives a broad indication of winds and state of sea surrounding the islands. Both bulletins are broadcast on local radio stations (FM & AM) while marine bulletins are also broadcast on Suva Radio (3DP). Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre Nadi - Tropical Cyclone Centre (RSMC Nadi-TCC)
RSMC Nadi provides forecast/warning services as follows: FIJI Special Marine Weather Bulletin for Fiji - issued at least every six hours when Gale Force or stronger winds threaten only the sea waters of Fiji. Broadcast on 3DP. a
Special Weather Bulletin (Tropical Cyclone Alert and Tropical Cyclone Warning) - issued normally every three hours when Gale Force or stronger winds threaten both land and sea areas. Broadcast on 3DR Note: A Special Marine Weather Bulletin is discontinued once a Special Weather Bulletin is commenced, as the later caters for both public and marine interests. 
REGION (EQUATOR - 25 SOUTH LATITUDE, 1600 EAST - 12O WEST LONGITUDE) International Marine Warning (Gale/Storm/Hurricane) - issued every 6 hours at 0115, 0715, 1315 and 1915. Broadcast from New Zealand via Taupo Maritime Radio (ZLM) and lnmarsat-C- Safety NET. 
International Marine Forecast (High seas) - issued twice daily at 0820 and 2020. Broadcast from New Zealand via Taupo Maritime Radio (ZLM) and lnmarsat-C- Safety NET. 
Tropical Disturbance Advisories/Summaries - issued at 6 to 12 hourly intervals

*The Nadi - Tropical Cyclone Centre was officially designated by WMO in June 1995 as a Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre (RSMC) with activity specialization in tropical cyclones tasked to provide "first-level" information in tropical cyclones (ie, basic information covering the tropical cyclones' present and forecast position, movement and intensity) in the South-West Pacific Ocean. The Public and the international media are requested to note that the RSMC-Nadi-Tropical Cyclone Centre is the official source of reliable "first-level" information on tropical cyclones occurring in the South-West Pacific Ocean
