Chargé d’Affaires Peter Brennan

Peter Brennan was appointed Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in La Paz in June 2014. Prior to his appointment in Bolivia, he was Minister-Counselor for Communications and Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Mr. Brennan was the Coordinator for Cuban Affairs at the U.S. State Department in Washington from August 2010 until August 2012. Mr. Brennan has served overseas tours as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica from August 2007 to September 2010, and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Nicaragua from August 2004 to September 2007.  Other overseas assignments include Public Affairs Counselor San Jose, Costa Rica (2000-2004); Public Affairs Counselor in Montevideo, Uruguay (1996-2000); Cultural Affairs Officer in Caracas, Venezuela (1990-93); Press Attaché in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (1987-90); and Information Officer in Bridgetown, Barbados (1984-87).

In Washington, Mr. Brennan served as U.S. Information Agency Liaison to the Department of the Treasury (1995-96), Special Assistant to the Counselor of USIA (1994-95), and Executive Assistant to the Associate Director of Policy and Programs (1993-94).  Prior to entering the Foreign Service, Mr. Brennan was Director of Marketing of the Dairy & Food Industries Supply Association, the largest U.S. association of companies serving the food and beverage industries.

A graduate of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service (BSFS, 1977), Mr. Brennan also pursued graduate studies at Georgetown and George Washington universities in Washington, D.C.  He is married to Elizabeth Ann Brennan, and they have three children.
