Publishing veteran John Kilcullen has joined FastPencil‘s Board of Directors.

Kilcullen is best known as the creator and publisher of the “For Dummies” brand of how-to books that he created through his company of IDG Books Worldwide. He also founded and runs Brand Revolution, a brand consulting company based in California. Kicullen also has a resume of experience working in magazine publishing. He served as president and publisher of Billboard, the Bookseller and Kirkus Reviews and senior vice president and group publisher of The Hollywood Reporter and Backstage.

Kilcullen had this statement: “The publishing industry is undergoing rapid changes driven by incredibly powerful and useful digital and social media technologies. Today, authors are eager to leverage those tools for more control, improved speed to market and real time transparency throughout the publishing process. FastPencil provides all of that as well as unparalleled simplicity and perhaps most importantly, a compelling percentage of gross revenues to offer a new path for proven and up and coming authors.”

Kilcullen comes on board after former Prentice Hall Regents President Bruce Butterfield who joined the FastPencil board last month.
