Cape Verde government raises minimum wage to 13,000 escudos

8 January 2018

The Cape Verdean government has approved an increase in the minimum wage for employees from 11,000 to 13,000 escudos (US$141) per month, said Fernando Elísio Freire, Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers last week in Praia.

“We are basically complying with what was agreed (…) which is in 2018 to raise the national minimum wage from 11,000 to 13,000 escudos,” said the meeting’s spokesman, noting that the government’s aim is increase this salary to 15,000 escudos by the end of its term of office (2021).

Freire noted that this measure, which is focused on the private sector, has no budgetary impact on the State, as, in addition to not applying it, the country’s Public Administration already pays higher wages. (macauhub)
