Relief for stranded express bus commuters on Staten Island's North Shore is on the way. New York City Transit will add an express bus to Manhattan via New Jersey next month. New York City Transit president Lawrence Reuter announced the addition of the X-30 route, which will begin service Sept. 10. "The new route will carry Staten Islanders to midtown Manhattan and back via New Jersey," Reuter said. "It is the first of our express bus routes to return to Staten Island via New Jersey.
" The new bus will depart Victory Blvd. and Clove Road at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 a.
m. It will travel to the Goethals Bridge and then to midtown Manhattan via New Jersey. The bus will depart from W. 57th St. and 11th Ave. at 4:30, 5 and 5:30 p.
m., returning to Staten Island via New Jersey. The private company Academy Bus Tours abandoned the route in June, citing the city's decision to award Atlantic Express Co. the franchise to operate the South Shore express service. Many commuters were dissatisfied with New York City Transit express bus service because it took a longer route through Brooklyn to midtown Manhattan.
