This is not fun watching-it's mostly horrifying-but even if our brave new world is inescapable, the show represents a kind of protest that feels more necessary than ever.
However you view it, this three-part series is thought-provoking and very well written, with its final episode, The Entire History Of You, a heart-breaking triumph.
The stories set archetypal human dilemmas-death, identity, fidelity-within an entirely new context, which is exactly how we are living them.
Ingeniously cast, with suspenseful and often complicated plots, the episodes vary in tone from horrific to comic, but most share certain themes.
Brooker's stories are novel enough to draw us in, yet familiar enough to become a warped reflection of ourselves and our culture.
For all the show's inventive storytelling, its true provocation is its righteous outrage, which shares something with Mike White's whistle-blower series Enlightened, although it's overlaid with a dark filter.
