Panamanian Vice-President and Foreign Minister Isabel de Saint Malo signed Panama's accession to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at a ceremony held in the framework of the United Nations National Assembly in New York.

The treaty marks a historic event in the face of the humanitarian consequences of the use of nuclear weapons. Saint Malo stressed the importance of the treaty, as it was an instrument for nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament at the global level.

Saint Malo also indicated the importance of strengthening cooperation in the region to provide effective humanitarian assistance to emergencies, such as those caused by natural disasters.

In this context, the Chancellor announced the National Cooperation Plan "Panama Coopera", which will allow the country to articulate a more effective South-South cooperation.
