Title despair for champion Evans

Evans denied world title defence

Three-times IBSF World Ladies Snooker champion Reanne Evans says she is desperately disappointed not to be able to defend her title this year.

Evans could not afford to travel to Hyderabad in India for the IBSF Championship this week.

"I looked at how much it was going to cost and it was more than my prize money," she told BBC Midlands Today.

The 24-year-old, from Dudley, is unbeaten in her last 49 matches and won the British Open title last weekend.

"People don't realize that there is virtually no prize money in the women's game. We need a couple of sponsors to bring it back up," she added.

"It is really frustrating. I want to get the game out there and get people wanting to watch women's snooker. I would rather lose my title on the table than give it up without playing."

Evans has won the WLBSA version of the world title five times and her ultimate goal is to play on the men's tour as well.
