‘We The People’ concert: Connie Britton reveals moving moment with Joe Biden
‘It is because of his commitment to hear every voice, it is for this reason that he is here now when unity is going to be the most important way forward. And he has spoken about that over and over and over again’
In a moving speech, actress Connie Britton spoke at the Biden-Harris “We The People” concert, which kicked off the duo’s inauguration week on Sunday night (17 January).
Recalling the day she attended the United State of Women Conference a few years ago, Britton described meeting then-Vice President Biden shortly after he gave a 45-minute speech about women’s empowerment at the event.
Though the Vice President was about to be driven away after his speech, Britton described how President-elect Biden made time to listen to her at the time.
“I walked all the way out to his car with him so he could listen,” the Friday Night Lights actor said. “It is because of his commitment to hear every voice, it is for this reason that he is here now when unity is going to be the most important way forward. And he has spoken about that over and over and over again.”
“It feels good to have our democracy and our nation back,” Britton added.
Hosted by Keegan-Michael Key and Debra Messing, Sunday’s “We The People" concert was the first of many celebratory inauguration events.
Also appearing at the concert was Mexican-born actor Jaime Camil, who talked about being a naturalised American citizen and ended his video appearance with a short address in Spanish.
Singer Carole King also stopped by to address viewers and perform her time-honored hit “You've Got A Friend”.
The Bidens and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, along with her husband Doug Emhoff, also spoke via video message, thanking grassroots supporters and encouraging unity.
