International Championship: John Higgins beaten by Li Hang

John Higgins was knocked out of the International Championship in China after a surprise 6-1 first-round defeat to unheralded Li Hang.

The Scot, who described himself as a "journeyman" earlier this year, exited in Chengdu after the 24-year-old home favourite made breaks of 70 and 93.

Four-time world champion Higgins, 39, has failed to get beyond the quarter-final of a tournament since June 2013.

Ronnie O'Sullivan made the second round with a 6-4 win over Ben Woollaston.

O'Sullivan, 38, booked his place after breaks of 124, 97 and 87, and will face Anthony McGill after his 6-4 triumph over Scottish compatriot Alan McManus.

Graeme Dott bowed out after his 6-1 thrashing by Craig Steadman, despite making a break of 139 in the frame he won.

Elsewhere veteran Jimmy White fell 6-4 to Barry Hawkins while Mark Williams eased to a 6-1 win over Oliver Brown.

Mark Allen eased to a 6-0 whitewash against Nigel Bond, and Stuart Bingham earned a 6-4 victory over Robbie Williams.
