International Championship: John Higgins through to last eight but Ronnie O'Sullivan out

John Higgins won three tournaments last year but has none so far in 2016

Defending champion John Higgins progressed at the International Championship in China by beating home favourite Zhou Yuelong.

Scotland's Higgins won 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals, but five-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan lost 6-4 to fellow Englishman Michael Holt.

Ding Junhui, who beat Ricky Walden, is the only Chinese player left in the richest tournament outside the UK.

Stuart Bingham, Shaun Murphy and Mark Selby also won their third-round ties.

Selby beat Yuelong's compatriot Liang Wenbo 6-5 while Bingham and Murphy beat fellow Englishmen Ali Carter and Sam Baird, respectively, in Daqing.
