UK Snooker Championship 2017: Mark Joyce says win over Neil Robertson 'one of his best'

Mark Joyce says his final-frame win over world number 10 Neil Robertson in the third round of the UK Championship was one of the best of his career.

Walsall's Joyce, the world number 42, trailed 4-3 after the Australian scored two centuries and a 79 and 84.

But the 34-year-old managed breaks of 50 and 80 to lead, before winning a nervy deciding frame on the pink ball.

"I'm not quite sure how I managed to hold myself together in the decider," said Joyce.

"You wouldn't be human if you didn't feel pressure in those situations but it's a matter of trying to stay calm and trying to rely on your technique.

"It has to be up there with my best wins. I beat Judd Trump in 2012 when he was defending champion and world number one and this is up there."

Joyce has reached five ranking event quarter-finals - including the UK Championship last eight in 2010 - but he has never gone beyond that stage.

Two of his five quarter-final appearances have come this season and Joyce was "thrilled" to have moved to within one more win of doubling his tally in the space of six months.

"I thought I had blown it in the decider when I played a bad safety and he got in 20 or 30-odd in front with four reds left," he added.

"He was massive favourite but I managed to get the reds out and obviously when I got the chance they were there to be taken."

Joyce faces China's world number 82 Lyu Haotian in the last 16.

"I'm just taking one match at a time. It's a great tournament and a lovely city and I'm delighted to be here for another couple of days," he added.

Robertson, 35, will slip out of the top 16 and miss out on a place at next month's Masters following his defeat.

"Mark played a fantastic match. I fired in a lot of breaks. You could see out there that he was really enjoying it and he kind of had nothing to lose," the two-time UK champion said.

"I'm not disappointed in the way I played at all. I've just got to congratulate him on a great win. It was a really good clearance at the end.

"I had a couple of really good chances in the decider but I ran out of position on the first chance and on the second chance I missed a tricky red."
