Barry Hawkins said his performance in the 6-0 third-round UK Championship defeat by world number 84 Sunny Akani was one of his "worst ever".
The world number eight's top break was 30, while his Thai opponent only scored a 59 and a 55 in his surprise victory.
"I am in a state of shock. I didn't expect that performance," the 38-year-old Kent-based cueman said.
"I feel a bit numb. It was a disgusting match. I feel sorry for anyone watching that."
Akani, 22, is joined in the last 16 at the York Barbican by three Chinese players, while only four of the top-16 seeds remain after a week of unexpected results.
Hawkins said he felt good prior to the match but criticised the table as well as his own display.
"I lost all confidence in the table in the end," Hawkins added. "At 2-0 my timing went.
"It is one of those games I just want to forget. It was up there with one of the worst I have ever played.
"Anything that could go wrong did go wrong.
"I have been playing well in practice and thought I was coming back into form, but after that performance I think it is back to the drawing board."
