BTS’ ‘Life Goes On’ Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Global Charts

BTS‘ “Life Goes On” charges in at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts.

Plus, Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber‘s “Monster” opens at No. 4 on each survey and Miley Cyrus‘ “Prisoner,” featuring Dua Lipa, debuts in the Global Excl. U.S. top 10.

The two charts (the latest of which are dated Dec. 5) premiered in September and rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The Billboard Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the U.S.

Chart rankings are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

BTS First Act With 3 Global 200 No. 1s

Released Nov. 20, “Life Goes On” by South Korean septet BTS enters at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 with 152.5 million streams and 84,000 downloads sold globally in the week ending Nov. 26. The streaming sum is the best in a week since the chart began, surpassing the weekly high for BLACKPINK’s “Lovesick Girls” (123.8 million, Oct. 17).

BTS is the first act with three Global 200 No. 1s, following “Dynamite” (for three weeks) and Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo’s “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” (one), the latter of which led aided by BTS remixes. No other act has more than one No. 1 so far.

Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez’s “Dakiti” drops to No. 2 on the Global 200 after two weeks at No. 1. “Life Goes On,” sung predominantly in Korean, and “Dakiti,” sung almost entirely in Spanish, are the only two Global 200 No. 1s so far sung predominantly in languages other than English.

Also in the Global 200’s top 10, BTS debuts at No. 9 with “Blue & Grey,” with 26.8 million streams and 87,000 sold globally, the latter sum the best among all songs in the tracking week. That song, “Life Goes On” and “Dynamite” are all on BTS’ new album, Be.

Rounding out the Global 200’s top five, BTS’ “Dynamite” rebounds 6-3; Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber’s “Monster” scares up a No. 4 debut, with 67.8 million streams and 25,000 sold worldwide; and 24kGoldn’s “Mood,” featuring Iann Dior, dips 3-5, after reaching No. 2.

‘Life Goes On’ Also No. 1 on Global Excl. U.S., ‘Prisoner’ Breaks Out

BTS’ “Life Goes On” likewise launches atop the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, with 137.8 million streams and 42,000 downloads sold in territories outside the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 26.

BTS is the first act with two Global Excl. U.S. No. 1s, as “Dynamite” ruled for five weeks. This week, the song rises 3-2, as the group becomes the first act to claim the chart’s top two spots simultaneously.

Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez’s “Dakiti” dips to No. 3 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart, after three weeks at No. 1. “Life Goes On” and “Dakiti” are among four No. 1s on the ranking so far (among six total) that feature non-English lyrics. The songs follow Maluma’s all-Spanish-language “Hawái” and BLACKPINK’s “Lovesick Girls,” sung in English and Korean.

Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber’s “Monster” begins at No. 4 on the Global Excl. U.S. list, with 49.5 million streams and 10,000 sold outside the U.S., and 24kGoldn’s “Mood” backtracks 4-5, after reaching No. 2.

Elsewhere in the Global Excl. U.S. top 10, Miley Cyrus’ “Prisoner,” featuring Dua Lipa, debuts at No. 10, with 28.6 million streams and 8,000 sold outside the U.S. The song marks the first top 10 on either global tally for both Tennessee native Cyrus and London-born Lipa.
