BLACKPINK Makes K-Pop History on Hot 100, Billboard 200 & More With ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’

BLACKPINK makes history on Billboard‘s charts, as, among other feats, the all-female quartet debuts the highest-charting hit ever by a K-pop girl group on the Billboard Hot 100, with “DDU-DU DDU-DU” opening at No. 55 (on the chart dated June 30).

The only other all-female K-pop group with a Hot 100 hit to its credit is Wonder Girls, who scored one entry, “Nobody,” in 2009. The track debuted and peaked at No. 76.

“DDU-DU DDU-DU” arrives with 12.4 million U.S. streams and 7,000 downloads sold in the tracking week ending June 21, according to Nielsen Music, also prompting its No. 39 entrance on the Streaming Songs tally, where BLACKPINK becomes the first K-pop girl group to chart a title.

The single is from the group’s sophomore EP SQUARE UP, which starts at No. 40 on the Billboard 200 with 14,000 equivalent album units. The set is the group’s first entry on the Billboard 200 and the highest-charting to date by an all-female K-pop group. The release also bows atop the World Albums tally, where it’s the act’s first No. 1.

BLACKPINK, consisting of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa, concurrently lands six tracks on the World Digital Song Sales chart:

Further, BLACKPINK debuts at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Emerging Artists chart, becoming the first all-female K-pop act to reign, and just the second K-pop act overall to lead the list, following NCT in May.
