Just when you thought the “Despacito” craze was over…
Luis Fonsi has received seven Guinness World Records titles thanks to the chart-topping song he dropped in January 2017. On Wednesday (Oct. 17), the Puerto Rican singer shared a photo of his seven titles on social media, thanking everyone who’s behind the global hit, including Daddy Yankee, who’s featured in the original single, and Justin Bieber, whose remix made the song reach an international success.
“I am very honored to be part of the Guinness World Records family,” Fonsi stated. “‘Despacito’ broke 7 titles and this is thanks to you. Thanks to everyone who worked to achieve this success! Thanks @daddyyankee, I share with you brother,” he added.
On the GWR website, official adjudicator Ralph Hannah, who presented the titles to Fonsi, said: “On behalf of Guinness World Records, it is an honor to officially recognize Luis Fonsi for his worldwide success for ‘Despacito.’ It follows the tradition of Puerto Rican artists who break records, showing that on a small island, great talents are born.”
