Fried chicken fast food chain Popeyes will move its headquarters to Miami from Atlanta, joining sister company Burger King, the South Florida Business Journal has learned.

Their parent company, Restaurant Brands International Inc. (NYSE: QSR), is combining its Popeyes's and U.S. Tim Hortons operations in Miami with Burger King, according to Steve Pattison, CFO and VP of Miami-based Restaurant Services Inc. Canada-based Restaurant Brands International agreed to buy Popeyes for $1.8 billion last year.

In January 2016, the Business Journal previously reported that Burger King had inked a lease for a 150,000-square-foot building in Waterford at Blue Lagoon office park. The five-story building will be on a 5-acre site at 5707 Blue Lagoon Drive. Once completed this fall, it will house both the Popeyes and Burger King headquarters.

The new building, on the part of the office park owned by Allianz Real Estate of America and TIAA-CREF, will be managed by the Hogan Group.

Burger King, which completed an $11 million merger with Tim Hortons and its parent company, Restaurant Brands International, in 2015, currently occupies about 200,000 square feet at 5505 Blue Lagoon Drive. That building is owned by Franklin Street Properties.

Popeyes has 2,975 restaurant locations, 53 of which are in Georgia, according to the company's website.

Representatives from Restaurant Brands International did not immediately respond to a request for comment for this story.
