The Arrowverse has found its Bruce Wayne.
In "O, Mouse!", the Batwoman Season 1 finale, Alphas alum Warren Christie debuted as Bruce Wayne -- kind of. In order to trick her sister Kate Kane, Alice disguised Tommy "Hush" Elliot as their cousin Bruce. She hopes Hush will be able to convince Kate to give up her shard of Kryptonite, which she received from Supergirl during "Crisis on Infinite Earths," as it is the only element on Earth that can pierce the Batsuit.
In addition to his role as Cameron Hicks on Alphas, Christie has appeared in Apollo 18, This Means War and Happy Town. His past credits also include Chicago Fire, Battlestar Galactica, The Exorcist TV series, The Village and Fifty States of Fright. Notably, he had a minor role in the Arrow Season 1 episode "Legacies," where he appeared as Queen family friend Dr. Carter Bowen.
When the Arrowverse launched with Arrow in 2012, the shared universe avoided direct references to the Dark Knight. That began to shift as the years wore on, up until Oliver Queen mentioned Bruce by name in the Arrow Season 6 episode "Tribute." Then, the Arrowverse began to really lean into the Batman mythology with the introduction of Batwoman in 2018's "Elseworlds" crossover. When Batwoman launched her solo series last year, the Arrowverse went all-in on Batman, with the exception of the man himself. However, many of his most recognizable staples -- including Arkham Asylum, the Batcave and his Batsuit -- have appeared on the series.
On Batwoman, both Batman and Bruce Wayne have been missing for roughly five years. He left Gotham shortly after he killed the Joker; Luke Fox even suggested this is what led him to disappear in the first place. The true circumstances behind his absence have been largely kept a mystery, but that may soon change. After all, by casting Christie to play Bruce, the Arrowverse has just opened the door for the Dark Knight himself to appear somewhere down the line -- but definitely not until Season 2, at the absolute earliest.
Returning to The CW in Jan. 2021, Batwoman stars Ruby Rose, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott and Nicole Kang. The series airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
