Yugoslavia joins UN as new member

The General Assembly admitted Yugoslavia as a new United Nations member on 1 November.

The General Assembly admitted the new Yugoslavia as a new United Nations member on 1 November, eight years after the former Yugoslav federation was suspended following the breakup.

Yugoslavia was a founder member of the United Nations in 1945, however the new Yugoslavia, consisting only of Serbia and Montenegro after the secession of the four other constituent republics, had to apply for UN membership as a new state.
