Masters snooker: Ali Carter reveals how Shaun Murphy beat him

ALI CARTER has explained exactly what Shaun Murphy did to get past him in their first round clash at the Masters.

Ali Carter lost out 6-4 to Shaun Murphy at the Masters

Murphy stormed to an early 4-0 lead going into the interval but Carter came out strong after the break.

He fought back to reduce the deficit to 5-4 but Murphy clung on to book his place in the last eight at Alexandra Palace.

Carter was confident going into the game, leading the way on head-to-heads between the pair 9-5 but in the aftermath he revealed that the Magician completely altered his game in order to beat him.

"Shaun’s normally very one dimensional but he completely changed his game for today’s match because he knew I’d probably have the upper hand on his match game," Carter said.

"He didn't really go for any silly ones and the ones he did go for, he certainly got.

“I left myself too much to do at 4-0 down but it’s tiny margins. 

"The first frame I lost he needed a snooker and if I’d won that frame then I would be 5-4 up not 5-4 down.

"All things considered, I’m glad I made a match of it. 

"I missed one or two but Shaun played really well so all credit to him, he closed the match out well.”

The result sets up a thunderous showdown between Murphy and Judd Trump on Friday.
