Musician, Songwriter. Born in Forest, Mississippi, he was a blues singer and guitarist, best known outside blues circles for writing rockabilly songs. He recorded with RCA in the late 1940s and wrote the classic hits "Mean Old 'Frisco Blues", "Who's Been Foolin' You", "Cool Disposition" and "That's All Right". His music was covered by many early rock and roll artist in the 1950s, most notably Elvis Presley. Sometimes labeled as "The Father of Rock and Roll", he accepted this title with some bemusement. He continued to record, perform and show case with other artist until his death from a heart attack in Nassawadox, Virginia.
