A New BTS Album Is In The Works

This article is more than 3 years old.

A new album from BTS is in the works, member RM announced today (April 17) during a YouTube livestream.

Part of a livestream series that RM says the members are trying out, aiming to show off part of their lives each week, the rapper-songwriter used the opportunity to reveal BTS are working on a new album.

“I’m sure many of you have guessed by now, but we’re going to be releasing another album,” he reportedly said, adding later that he’s unsure when it will be released.

“We’ve begun preparing for it. We’re going to be sharing that preparation process with you. No details have been decided as of now, we’ve only just started talking about it. That we’re going to be creating something new. We’re going to work hard to do that.”

RM’s livestream on BTS’s BANGTANTV YouTube channel is set to be the first in a series featuring the members of the act showing off their day-to-day lives as people across the world are kept apart in the efforts to halt the spread of the coronavirus. The video fittingly featured the motivational hashtags “StayConnected” and “CarryOn” in its description, as the BTS members seek a new way to connect with fans while the global COVID-19 pandemic keeps people apart and puts a halt to live music events, including cancellations and postponements of many of the act’s Map of the Soul tour dates.

The forthcoming, in-the-works album will be BTS’s first since Map of the Soul: 7, released in February. That album, fronted by singles “ON” and “Black Swan,” topped charts around the world, and went on to become the act’s best-selling album with over 4.17 million copies sold.

The septet was recently recognized by South Korea’s Gaon Chart as the best-selling group from that country of all time, selling over 20 million combined albums since starting their career as BTS in 2013. Any upcoming album from BTS is expected to sell similarly well, and continue to lead to historic record-breaking achievements from the act.
