Newfoundland and Labrador’s Q4 2023 population change resulted from gains in international migration, largely offset by natural population decline (fewer births than deaths) and losses from net interprovincial migration.

A net gain was recorded in international migration (+1,238), while a small net loss occurred in interprovincial migration (-185).

  • International migration gains stemmed from a large influx of permanent (or landed) immigrants (+1,279).
  • On an interprovincial basis, net migration losses were largely concentrated toward Alberta (-220), followed by Saskatchewan (-40) and Quebec (-33), while the largest net gain was from Manitoba (+44).
