Memories of Murder wins Critics Choice Awards

Director Bong Joon-ho's acclaimed Memories of Murder was the big winner at the 23rd Critics Choice Awards, held on November 13. The film was presented with the Best Picture, Best Director (Bong Joon-ho) and Best Actor (Song Kang-ho) awards. The award ceremony is presented each year by the Korean Film Critics Association.

Other awards included Lee Mi-sook (Untold Scandal) for Best Actress, Im Sang-soo (A Good Lawyer's Wife) for Best Screenplay, and Jang Joon-hwan (Save the Green Planet) for Best New Director. Park Hae-il was named Best New Actor for his role in Jealousy Is My Middle Name, while Lim Soo-jung from A Tale of Two Sisters won Best New Actress.

The Korean Film Critics' Association also chooses an annual list of "10 Best Korean Films". This year's selections, in no particular order, are:

"A Little Monk" (dir. Joo Kyeong-joong), A Good Lawyer's Wife (dir. Im Sang-soo), Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring (dir. Kim Ki-duk), The Uninvited (dir. LEE Su-youn), Memories of Murder (dir. Bong Joon-ho), Untold Scandal (dir. Lee Jae-yong), A Tale of Two Sisters (dir. Kim Jee-woon), Save the Green Planet (dir. Jang Joon-hwan), Jealousy Is My Middle Name (dir. Park Chan-ok), and Once Upon a Time in a Battlefield ("Hwangsanbul") (dir. Lee Joon-ik).
