The IANA Stewardship Transition Coordination Group (ICG) applauds the transfer of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority’s (IANA) stewardship to the global multistakeholder community. With the expiration of the contract between the US Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA) and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), implementation of the IANA stewardship transition plan can be completed.

The ICG is proud to have coordinated a transition plan that upholds a widely shared vision for the Internet. The IANA stewardship arrangements in place as a result of the transition support the multistakeholder model of Internet governance, maintain the security and stability of the IANA functions, and maintain the openness of the Internet. Oversight over IANA is now fully the responsibility of the Internet community, as originally planned many years ago.

For more than two years, stakeholders across the globe worked tirelessly to develop and implement a detailed plan to secure the future of the IANA functions. The ICG is honored to have played its part and gratified that today, the Internet is functioning just as smoothly as it did yesterday.

With the expiration of the IANA functions contract, the ICG’s work is complete and the ICG will formally conclude its existence as a group. The ICG web site will remain archived at ianacg.org for future reference.
