According to Duffy, Hasbro offered stores the new version, but retailers in the United States have opted against selling the revised board game because they already have enough inventory. While she said the version that includes Rey was available in several markets, including France and the United Kingdom, the AP reports that a family from the U.K. that recently purchased the game didn't get the version that includes Rey.
The company revealed the Rey piece at the 2016 Toy Fair in New York City. Those who have already purchased the game and want the Rey piece can request one by contacting customer service.
The game pieces featured in the original version are of four male characters, including Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren and Finn. Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams has made his disappointment with the lack Rey in the film's merchandise known in the past, and may have even had a role in her addition to the board game. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which opens in theaters on December 15, 2017. Alex Osborn is a freelance writer for IGN.
