Thomas S. Bottiglieri is a Medical Doctor, Board Certified in Sports Medicine and Family Practice.  He is a member of Columbia Affiliate Physicians, an Honorary Police Surgeon for the New York City Police Department, Clinical Assistant Professor for Rowan University Medical School, & Associate Professor at Seton Hall University.  He has focused on athletic injuries and human movement patterns in private practice since 2008.  His fellowship at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in affiliation with Rutgers Sports Medicine prepared him for the management of complex medical conditions affecting athletic participation, overuse injuries of the muscular and skeletal system, and also conditions ranging from fracture care to concussion care.  Dr. Bottiglieri studied and cared for pediatric, adolescent, and adult injuries there. Soon after fellowship he launched a concussion management system for public schools in Bergen county, New Jersey.  He now serves as medical director at eight school districts and one university in New York and New Jersey.  He is regarded as a leading expert in the field of concussion management and has cared for thousands of sports injuries and concussed athletes since the program’s inception.

He has served the sports medicine community as a member of seven regionally & nationally accredited colleges and academies including ACSM, AMSSM, ACLM, AOA, ACOFP, MSSNY, & RCMS.  He regularly attends regional and national conferences in order to maintain a knowledge of the latest technology in medicine and to provide the best care to his patients. Dr. Bottiglieri started Advantage Medical Care in 2013 in response to the epidemic of inactivity and obesity in our culture.  He has studied the field extensively in relation to the practice of sports medicine and has assembled a team directed at improving health outcomes through lifestyle intervention.  He has served on the Physician Advisory Committee for the largest national network of Bariatric physicians. The mission of Advantage Medical Care is to encourage healthy nutrition, movement, mindfulness, & education.

Dr. Bottiglieri has a passion for education and serves as an associate professor at Rowan University-SOM for family practice resident education and also as an associate professor at Seton Hall University Athletic Training program.  His passion for education was ignited prior to attending medical school when he taught science for the NYC BOE at Grady high school.  From there he was part of a pilot education program at UMDNJ-SOM that has since become a fixture of the medical education program, and for which he later served as a facilitator/educator.  Dr. Bottiglieri has been featured as a speaker at several symposia ranging in topics from technology in healthcare, pre-participation screening for athletes, concussion recognition and management, overuse injury, spine injury, & prevention of fatal athletic injuries. Dr. Bottiglieri has been invited to elementary, junior and high school programs to speak about various health-related & science topics, which is among his favorite things-to-do.  He has coordinated community education projects and enjoys patient-centered, shared-decision making.

Dr. Bottiglieri lives on Staten Island, New York with his wife Vanessa and their 4 children.  He continues to bring his knowledge and care to each of his patients, one at a time.  He maintains an active lifestyle through martial arts training and sports participation.  He coaches his children’s athletic teams and advocates for community projects that encourage healthy lifestyles.
